A few days ago my four-year old daughter and I were playing in the snow. By packing a pile of snow together, and carving a path leading to a "door" in the pile, she built an "igloo." She told me the igloo was for the "water bears."
I laughed. Children are always listening. She remembered the discussion of tardigrades (water bears) from Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. Sensing that it was time to show off, she went on to say "water bears are really small, and they live in water, and they aren't really bears, but are just called bears."
She made a second hole in her igloo and filled it with grass for the water bears to eat. Too funny.
I love being her Daddy.
*bonus content: transcript (written down minutes after it happened) of a conversation she and I had on January 18, 2015 (when she was two)
Me: Why are you crying?
Yazzy: Because I am crying.
Me: That is not an answer.
Yazzy: Because I am crying like a baby.
Me: That's still not an answer. For every effect there is a cause. Tell me why you are crying like a baby so I can help.
Yazzy: Because I'm not crying like a bear.
Me: You're so interesting.
